Financial Controller

Based in Boston, we have a position for a Financial Controller (FC). Hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm working a 42.5 hour week. Initially this is only a 3 month contract, but this may lead to a permanent role.

This is a pivotal and senior role within the finance function, which reports at both entity and Group Level for 2 Limited Companies, adopting IFRS reporting standards.  You will be reporting to the Finance Director. On a day-to-day basis the FC, will be responsible for and oversee the Finance function, ensuring that accounting records are kept appropriately, accurately and that reported results comply with accounting standards and relevant legislation.

Some of their key duties will include:

  • Working with the FD and Budget holders, in co-ordinating and leading the preparation of the budgets and financial forecasts
  • Preparing the first draft of monthly financial statements and other periodic financial reports, ensuring that the finance team operates within a robust control environment and being the principle contact for the FD
  • To contribute to ensuring that financial systems are fit for purpose, are appropriately maintained and work with the FD to identify areas for improvement.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary, but examples include:

  • Managing the day-to-day accounting operations for Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Credit Control, Management and Financial Accounting
  • Assisting in the preparation of the costs budget and sales forecasts; reporting any variances on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Preparing and publishing timely monthly financial reports of Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet
  • Ensuring that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
  • Ensuring all reporting is compliant.
  • Overseeing the management of debt collection
  • Supervising and managing financial department staff
  • Assisting the FD in managing the audit process and liaising with external personnel as required

Skills needed for this position

  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • To be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good leadership and management abilities
  • Willingness to be hands on to achieve the end goal.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Manufacturing environment in a similar role
  • Experience of the external audit process
  • Experience of Sage 200
  • Qualified Accountant to Degree Level or similar
